How to Scrub the Right Way

We’ve all done it at some point and succumbed to one of the top sins of all skin sins: scrubbing our skin too hard. While sloughing off dead skin cells is an absolute must to keep your pores from clogging up, scrubbing wrong can do bad things to your skin. It can lead to hyper-pigmentation, irritation and burning (no, thanks).

In the next 2 minutes, we’re going to tell you how to scrub the correct way and get that glowing, post-exfoliation skin. Here are 7 things to keep in mind while you exfoliate away:

  1. Gentle, Gentler, Gentlest: Feather fingers is how it’s done. Imagine if your fingers were light, airy feathers and if you were running it over your face ever so lightly. That’s what we’re trying to do. We want to put little to no pressure while we work the scrub into our skin. This is true especially for our facial skin which is super-sensitive. All we’re doing here is patting it in an upward motion and allowing the product to do its thing.

  2. Keep It Dry: Use dry hands to scoop out the scrub or use a dry spoon to scoop it into a bowl before adding a hydrosol of your choice to make it slightly moist. Close the lid as soon as you’re done with the bottle to keep it at its driest best. Wetness will ruin the scrub faster because our ingredients are all-natural actives with absolutely no preservatives.

  3. In An Upward Motion: Wet your body or face before you start. Scrub your body or pat your facial skin gently in an upward motion for maximum effect. Don’t scrub or pat for more than 30 seconds.

  4. Let It Sit For 2-5 Mins: If you’re not in a hurry on exfoliation day, allow your skin to soak in the goodness of all the ingredients by letting it sit for a few minutes. Wash it off with lukewarm (never hot) water and say hello to smooth, supple skin!

  5. Cleanse after if you have oily skin: If your face scrub is oil-based and you have an oily skin type, use an oil-free cleanser to get rid of any excess greasiness on your skin to avoid a break-out.

  6. Moisturise After: Your skin is now prepped to soak in the goodness from all the products you use! Use your favourite moisturiser to lock in all the amazingness from the scrub and keep your skin barrier in peachy condition.

  7. Exfoliate 1-2 Times A Week: Unless you have an extremely oily skin type and are prone to an excessive build-up of dead skin cells, exfoliating 2 times a week is optimum. Over-exfoliating can ruin your skin barrier and take away from the benefits of exfoliating in a big way.

And with that, you know everything you need to know about scrubbing right!
